How would wearing a thong affect my swimming?

I swim competitivly (Male) and would like to wear a thong to feel a little more free and move my legs easier. I go to my friends house to practice. I would not be in public. However, should I find this style more comfy, would it be acceptable to wear one to a race? (14 almost 15). And would I be able to get my friend to be ok with me swimming at his house like that?

Public Comments

  1. I doubt you could wear that in a competitive race. Check the rule books, but I suspect you have to wear standard issue Speedos, with no alterations.
  2. I don't think that's exceptable for a public pool. Get yourself some Speedos. Good Luck.
  3. I think it would speed up your swimming significantly, but I doubt the meet officials would permit it. I also doubt your friend would go for it. Thongs are disgusting to look at unless they are on the opposite sex and also on a nice body.
  4. I don't know how to get your friend to thong with you, maybe you dare them. Most competitions at your age are run by the schools and the rules for school events are probably similar to the rest, no clothing that disrupts or annoys the teachers. So I suspect thongs are out, but you can probably get away with a very small speedo type suit with thin sides and narrow rio back. You can also get some very low cut swimsuits from some of the Japanese swimsuit companies. As for training laps thongs are fine. I don't know if you will be faster but you won't be as slow as people wearing drag suits !! I would ask your friend or dare your friend into training in thongs so that the two of you have a stunning tan line for when you go to the beach this summer. Maybe tell him a girl bet you that you were not going to have a thong tan line as good as hers. For info on suits that are closer to a thong but that can be worn in places where thongs are not allowed try browsing the "Thong Wearers Message Board" for ideas. Some of their members have the same problem, they like to swim or train in thongs but since many pools don't allow them they have to fall back to a next best solution. Good luck, and don't forget to try your thong out on the beach. Most states allow thongs on the beach but some of the more backward states do not, and some towns or parks have thong bans. You have to figure out what the rules are on your beaches.
